Rohan's confidence comes from hearing this claim repeatedly, in many places — and a claim heard often enough can start to feel like a checked fact even when nobody actually checked it. Astronauts who have specifically looked for the Great Wall from orbit — including NASA's Jeffrey Hoffman across five shuttle missions, and Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei on China's own Shenzhou 5 mission — all report the same thing: it does not stand out to the naked eye. The wall is built mostly from stone and clay that blend into the surrounding land, and even though it is thousands of kilometres long, its actual WIDTH is only a few metres — far too thin to stand out against a landscape from hundreds of kilometres up, no matter how long it runs. Test it: a road can be very long too, yet nobody expects a highway to be visible from orbit — length alone does not make something visible from far away; width does. His sister is right: astronauts have specifically looked and could not see the Great Wall with the naked eye — a claim repeated often is not the same as a claim someone actually verified.
