Kabir says America's "Statue of Liberty" is the tallest statue in the world
Kabir says America's "Statue of Liberty" is the tallest statue in the world. His sister says the world's tallest statue is in India. Who is right?
Who do you think is right? Pick one.
The answer: His sister is right, Gujarat's "Statue of Unity" (182 metres) is the tallest
Why
Kabir's guess makes sense because the Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous, most photographed statues in the world — fame and being the tallest can feel like they should go together, even though they are actually unrelated. The Statue of Liberty's statue itself stands about 93 metres tall (including its pedestal). India's Statue of Unity, in Gujarat, depicting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stands 182 metres tall — about 89 metres taller than the Statue of Liberty, and 29 metres taller than China's Spring Temple Buddha, the previous record-holder. It has held the world record for tallest statue since it was completed in 2018. Test it: 182 metres is roughly the height of a 60-storey building — more than double the Statue of Liberty's height, not a close comparison at all once the actual numbers are checked. His sister is right: the Statue of Unity in Gujarat is the world's tallest statue — a monument being globally famous does not necessarily mean it holds every possible record.
