Ananya says the Constitution is only about the rights we GET — free speech, equality, and so on. Her teacher says she is missing half of it. What is she missing?
Who do you think is right? Pick one.
The answer: It also asks something of us
Why
Credit that rights are a huge part of the Constitution — natural to focus there. What's missed: alongside rights it names DUTIES — things citizens owe back: respecting the law, protecting public property, caring for shared spaces. Rights and duties fit together: your right to a clean public park sits alongside your duty not to trash it. A right taken with no duty is like wanting a full well but refusing to help keep it clean. The Constitution gives AND asks; seeing both is understanding it fully.
